The church that I go to has taken on a project of establishing an orphanage in Kafue, Zambia recently. The New Beginnings Church, based in Tugun, SE Qld is behind the project, led by Ken Legg, Rob Stuttle & Roger Wilson.
The whole project is expected to cost about $100,000, and although an extremely generous gesture of underwriting the whole project was made by one of the congregation, funds still have to be raised. The offer was to provide certainty for the project, rather than “owning” it altogether.
One way of raising money was to receive another generous donation of (5,000) brand new, sewn handbags to sell, and keep all the proceeds for the orphanage. I’ve got a “few” here in the shopfront, so any locals who would like to provide a little hope to some Zambian orphan kids should pop in and get a few. Excellent pacifiers for daughters & grand-daughters, or even good for carrying a few beers when having a BBQ with your mates – if you’re game…………
$3.50 each, or $10 for 3.
Visit Ken Legg’s site, or at his training institute, or email Ken at setfreemin@ozemail.com.au if you want to be more involved.
As a footnote, there is a new wesite for the orphanage at http://www.newbeginningschildrensvillage.com/
Body Corporate Committees
My contact is nearly always the manager of a resort, or building, and they are the ones tasked with maintenance and repairs etc., and they usually know what works and what doesn’t.
You would think that b/c committees would listen to that experience when choosing new poolside furniture, and choose products that make sense over the long term.
Sadly, no.
I’ve just had a manager ring one day to place an order for some sunlounges that the b/c had agreed to purchase, and then he’s been placed in the embarassing position of having to ring me again to say that one of the b/c members found a cheaper lounge at some store in another area, and they are going to purchase them. It wasn’t even in the same league of suitability, but it was cheaper, so it must be a better choice…………..
I can get them too, aaand I have a cheaper price on them, so I sent off another email detailing some of the cheaper styles I can supply. It would be nice to recover the transaction, because ‘
I had spent some time on it.
I don’t like doing it though. They’re going to end up buying furniture that doesn’t meet the standard of their building, and it will cheapen the experience of guests.
But that’s not my problem…………..and that’s the end of my bitching.
I will always present what I think will be best suited, and will present the case honestly, but, in the end, the person holding the chequebook controls the decision.
Resort sunlounges

I delivered a few more Resort Sunlounges to the Mantra Coolangatta Resort yesterday. They are very pleased with the strength and the look of them. The patrons soon jumped on them, too. They said they were high & comfortable.
Teak and Stainless Steel

We still have this Teak/Stainless setting in the showroom.
It includes a 7 pce dining suite, Serving trolley, long bench seat, Sunlounge and 2 planter boxes.
Superb quality – it just needs the right balcony.
Fibreglass Tables
In contrast to the last post, I also sold the table pictured above this morning.
80cm x 63 cm is a good balcony size, and coupled with the resin base, it becomes a very stable, strong and rust-free table for seaside balconies.
It will look out over the beach at Coolangatta.
Fibreglass Tabletops

Fibreglass tabletops are the hardiest type for high use areas. They last for years, and polish up easily. Pictured above is a custom top and base we made for a client in Sydney.
Normally, our largest round table is 1600mm diameter. This client wanted to seat 8 – 10 people around it, so we made this one 1800mm diameter.
PVC Outdoor Furniture

The smooth-tube pvc furniture might not be seen in the latest “style” magazines, but it is still immensely practical furniture in certain applications. It is a low-cost alternative, important to a lot of body corporates, and with proper maintenance, will outlast any aluminium settings with ease.
The “Daydream” pictured above is strengthened in the side rails and legs for commercial use, and we supply it with a double layer of mesh for extra strength and reduced sagging.
Breakages are rare, and we can easily repair as needed.
Table Bases

This is one of a range of cast aluminium bases that are very attractive, and can be transported easily for self-assembly. They come powder-coated black in various styles, including 3 or 4 way, or extended for rectangle tables. They have adjusting feet, of course. See more on the Cafe & Restaurant Furniture page.
Balcony Furniture

The Sunset chair is often chosen because it looks lighter, and maybe smaller. In fact, it’s almost exactly the same size as the Queenslander, but the lower back and the cut-outs on the sling gives that impression. It is made from the same fluted resin tube, and has all it’s advantages of no-rust stability.
Outdoor Cushions
Outdoor cushions continue to be a sought after item. The cheaper (and even not so cheap) settings imported from asia almost always have cushions that dissappoint after 12 to 18 months. We can usually provide an economical replacement cushion that lasts a lot longer, and it’s made in Australia. There are plenty of standard sizes to choose from, and when you have special requirements, we can handmake to all sorts of sizes and thicknesses.
We ship all around Australia.
Resort Furniture

The fluted Resin range of outdoor furniture is ideal for resort living, whether its furniture for the Balcony or the pool. This setting is going on to a sunny roof area in a Kingscliff resort. It shows 4 Queenslander chairs around a 120cm diameter table with a Resort Sunlounge. They have plenty of space for more if needed, but it will be ideally placed. The Resort is seaside, and open to strong winds at times, so the weight & stability will be needed. Even here, we give a 10 year warranty on the frames. I deliver tomorrow.
Pretty good, huh!!
Balcony Furniture

The Queenslander Chair is our most popular. It is comfortable enough to be used on the balcony to relax, yet it also has a posture that is good for a dining chair. It has a higher back and low arms to push under the table edge. The design also gives good lumbar support to the back, and for those that like a bit more padding, we can provide a cushion welded into the seat, or separate cushions. It’s strong, too.
Balcony Furniture
One of the strongest chairs around is the Paradise Chair, If you have a 25 stone nephew that launches himself into a chair from 2 metres away, then the Paradise is the one. It’s also a chair that is great for sitting back contemplating the horizon with a drink in hand. It is a pretty laid-back comfortable chair. Big people often choose it for it’s strength, as well as it’s roominess. It will take a “generously proportioned behind”.
Stop wobbly tables
Cafe & Restaurant staff can waste a lot of time adjusting unsteady tables. That costs the business a lot of money over time, and if it is only attended to after a customer complains, it can cost a lot in reoeat business.
A good solution to wobbly tables are “Tableshox“, a self-adjusting table glide that will save your time, money and image.
Chair Tips
A lot of Restaurants don’t think to check their chairs very often for wear on the Chair tips. Replacement before they wear through to the chair leg saves on replacement costs of the chairs, as well as damage to the floor area, too.
Restaurants, Hotels and motels are obvious places where this is necessary, but the same can go for balcony furniture as well. Make it a regular checkpoint for the cleaners to bring attention to the needs. We can supply chairs tips for a wide range of furniture, and can cheaply replace legs on a lot of resort balcony fuurniture
